Too sunny for sleep
It will probably be sunny in the summer when you're putting your child to bed and that's okay. They still need to go to bed!
I used to live in Minnesota where the sun doesn't set until after 9pm some summer days. That means it can be somewhat light until almost 10pm!
In some Alaskan cities, they get 22 hours of daylight.
But people still sleep. Children sleep. Blackout curtains will be your best friend.
Make sure you have blackout curtains in their room to block the sun. You can even run some Velcro strips along the edges of the curtains to affix them to the wall if sun is seeping around the edges.
Kids will sleep best in a dark room so do what you can to achieve darkness.
Falling in the trap of putting kids to bed later in the summer just because it's sunny, is what I call the Summer Slide. It may work for a few nights but, eventually, you will start to see sleep habits degrade. So, find your child's ideal bedtime and stick to it!
If you don't have blackout curtains, you can use black trash bags or towels. These are are great ideas for travel, too.
