Make the meeting great!

When you want to make a change to a challenging part of the day, like bedtime, having an intentional conversation that commands YOUR attention shows your child how serious you are about the subject.

It’s the difference between you scrolling on your phone and casually calling over your shoulder - “clean up your toys for dinner”. (How serious do they really think you are?)
Or kneeling down, looking at your child in the eye and saying “Hey bud, it’s time to clean up your toys so we can have dinner now. Let’s see if you can get it done before the timer goes off in 5 minutes, Ok? High five!”

So, give your child a heads up that you want to have a special meeting with him and set aside 15-minutes of dedicated time so you can focus on it, too.

And try to make it fun!

Maybe have the talk in a special place in the house - build a fort together to have the talk under a table, take a flashlight and have the talk under his covers.

Giving this meeting your precious attention, shows him you really want to make bedtime a fun time of day that you guys can look forward to and it helps to get him on board with the new process.
