Holding the Door

With either strategy, there may come a time where you have to secure your child's door.

In most cases, we have found that parents holding the door closed can cause tensions to escalate more than when a childproof device is used. The child may know that the parent is on the other side of the door and it can become an emotional tug-of-war game. So, if you expect to have to leave the room, holding the door may not be the best option depending on your child's temperament.
