What to do when child is sick
If you just started or are about to start the Sleep Tight Without A Fight Toddler sleep course and your
kiddo is sick, you will want to pause the program and resume when your child is completely healthy
and symptom free.
How do you manage providing your child extra comfort when sick but also making sure you don’t
derail your sleep training progress?
You can absolutely comfort your sick child while also maintaining their healthy sleep habits.
If your child needs medication, temperature taken, back rubs, extra comfort, need help blowing their nose - do it but the goal is to think about doing as little as possible and try to get out of the room before they fall asleep. Try to avoid talking too much and keep the lights low.
Typically, co-sleeping is not needed unless there is vomiting involved or something that requires constant attention.
Once your child is feeling better, resume the sleep program.
It’s not uncommon if your child experiences a slight sleep regression after an illness. However, if you’ve established a great sleep foundation, they should be able to bounce right back to independent sleep within a day or two. You can always fall back on the steps you used from the course to build those good sleep habits in the first place!
