Potty trained child needs help going potty after lights out or overnight

Your nighttime potty trained child may wake to go potty sometimes but they should be able to sleep 10-12 hours without needing to wake to go potty most nights. If you're seeing frequent accidents, check out the related articles in this section.

If they are waking you to help them to go potty overnight, put a toddler potty in their room so they have access to it on their own.
You can also put a potty in their room if you're using a strategy that may require them to stay in their room without access to a bathroom.

Going potty is obviously a biological need but it can also become kids 'go to' request in order to get attention from you. Putting a potty in the room is a great way to reduce the attention but also give them what they need. You can also get a waterproof mat if you have a child who is still working on their aim.

If you find that they're waking frequently, you can try limiting liquids to hour or two before bed - just make sure they're not chugging right before bed.
