Child wants to change steps on visual guide

It's common for kids to get excited about the new bedtime routine and the visual guide after the Sleep Reset Meeting but then want to change steps in the process, rearrange them or just stop following along.

I recommend acknowledging their feelings in the moment, touching on a solution but then redirecting to stay on task.

So, you can say something like "I understand you want to read 3 books tonight. But when we made the chart, we decided on 2 books. Remember when we had our special meeting? So we can't change it tonight but we can talk about it tomorrow after school and see if you want to make some changes. But we can't change it tonight because we already decided."

Every so often, if you want to have another meeting and rearrange things or add things in, that's fine.
But I recommend doing it in an intentional way by having another meeting during the day rather than making changes on the fly at night.

Making a couple changes may not feel like a big deal but... if you give an inch, they can take a mile!

If your child consistently wants to add something in every single night, you can include 2 or 3 minutes of free time.
You would add this as an item on the visual guide just like the other steps.
And use a time to control the duration.
During this time, your child gets to choose whatever clam activity to do - add another book, song, snuggle time, etc.
